In this lesson, the student will determine the theme of a story, drama, or poem and summarize the text. The theme is the central idea of the text and it teaches a lesson on how human beings act, think, or feel. The theme is usually subtle but can be discovered through inference, among the details.
During the lesson, the student will be able to:
- recognize a theme;
- determine the theme of the text, using key details to support thinking;
- discover the moral lesson or theme, through inference;
- write a summary using details from the text.
