11.R.5I – Analyze in detail how an author’s ideas or claims are developed and refined by particular sentences, paragraphs,
or portions of a text (e.g., chapters, essays, or news articles).


In this lesson you will read and write persuasive texts. You will determine the central idea and details of the literature and support your analysis by citing or paraphrasing specific and relevant text evidence. Furthermore, you will extend your analysis to examine the rhetoric and arguments of the author and how these develop throughout the text in order to send a clear message to the reader.

During this lesson, the student will be able to: 

  1. cite specific and relevant text evidence to support analysis of the text; 
  2. determine central ideas of a text;
  3. analyze how ideas are developed over the course of the text; 
  4. compose a persuasive piece with logical and reasonable arguments.
